You do it to yourself

I tried so hard to take some photos because I really love this outfit but the weather made it very difficult.  It hailed today.
shirt: thrift town
shorts: crimson and clover vintage
shoes: thrifted
I ended up really liking the grainy vintage feel though and the last photo where I'm partially see through is pretty trippy. I'm going to start writing a bit more reviews and opinions on my blog in the future. I was really impressed with Tavi's post on Sassy magazine yesterday. Right now though, I have a paper to write.  It is about womens' poverty and very depressing. Thank you to all who have already submitted photos for the contest. They look fantastic.

Park Life

Yesterday was my husband's birthday but I didn't get to see him all day as he had exams and then had to grade papers. We are going to pretend it is today.  Bea, Agnes and I had one of those lovely park days though.  Contest information here
I actually got inspired by Heraid's outfit form my previous post as I was working on the fab 5 concurrently to picking my outfit. top:bebe from forever ago, skirt:thrift town, sandals:thrifted
 cardigan and dress: thrifted gifts

It is times like these, when your daughter spontaneously lies in the grass in a state of bliss, that having a camera around is very nice.

The Fabulous Five

Each month I will be featuring five amazing thrifted or vintage outfits from other style blogs. Here are my April picks.
Thrift Candy was one of the first blogs I found when I started my site. Missa has such a relaxed yet fun and innovative style and most of her clothes are thrifted. She also is a very sweet and gracious blogger.  I really loved the bohemian feel of this outfit and the red shoes and bag really make it stand out.
I found Molly on chictopia and fell in love with this American Apparel dress. I love the pattern of the tie dye. She has other amazing styles that can be found on  La fille Atomique.
I just found Virgin's blog via a link on someone's blog. I love this colorful 90's inspired outfit and the girl knows how to work a camera. She can be found on Vintage Virgin for more awesome thrifted styles.
I found this outfit on chictopia too and love the combination of florals and sheer black top. More lovely thrifted outfits by Heraid can be found on her blog, Poorly Fashioned
I fell in love with this brown dress and the accessories make it look even more great. I found Kristen on chictopia as well and am so glad I did.  She has such amazing vintage style. She can be found at Leproust Vintage.

Don't forget to submit your photo for the contest by Friday. Please check the post for more details I've added about it. I've already received some lovely submissions and am excited for the voting to begin.

First Competition

I am excited to announce my first blog competition. Please send me a photo of your favorite thrifted and/or vintage outfit. The winner will be voted on by the readers. I got this idea from the lovely Meg who recently did something similar. The winner will be interviewed and featured on my  blog. The photo does not need to be new. This is just for fun so don't be shy. Also, if there is one item  that is not thrifted don't worry just make sure the outfit is mostly vintage or thrifted.  Please make sure the photo is only of you and of good quality clearly showing the outfit. Depending on how many entries I receive I might split the voting into two parts and in that case there will be two winners. Send me the photos and a blog link to starshipnarcissus@gmail.com. The deadline for a  photo submission is April, 30 at Midnight Pacific Time.

Castle on my shirt

Beatrix helped me pick out my outfit today. She had a lot of fun although I did veto the shorts in favor of a skirt. We went to a big playground in the morning.

tee: crimson & clover $1
skirt: thrifted
shoes: thrift town

top and skirt: secondhand gift

We went to a thrift town today to get a few things and turn in my punch card.  I've been cutting back on shopping lately but found some dresses for the summer and sandals for Bea. I also found the necklace pictured above that matched my outfit perfectly. I am not used to how big the pictures are. The step between large and extra large is quite a leap.  Looking forward to the weekend although we are mainly just studying. What are your plans?

Earth Science

I am so inspired by Beatrix's outfit. It is mismatched perfection that she picked out herself.
chucks: goodwill
skirt and shirt: secondhand
I can't stop wearing this dress. It is so comfortable. In the morning I paired it with another pair of red tights. I've been wearing red tights so much this year and the color red in general. This is the only pic that you can kind of see a little bow that is part of the dress.
I felt I'd been wearing too much red so I changed into these later. I feel like it makes the outfit less plain. Not that there is anything wrong with simplicity.
dress: thrifted
boots:vintage
On our daily walk Beatrix was thrilled to see the moon during daylight hours.

I have seen so many other blogs that use the big pics but I'm not sure if I like it as you can't see the whole outfit on the screen at once. Any input would be appreciated.

Never stop fighting

To be nobody but yourself in a world that's doing its best to make you somebody else, is to fight the hardest battle you are ever going to fight. Never stop fighting. ee cummings
Today I cut another black dress. This time it didn't turn out too short.
Dress: h&m thrifted
poncho: thrifted
boots: vintage gift
Bea's shirt: thrifted
This photo of Alaric was from last weekend.
shirt:vintage thrifted

Bea loves going shopping.
Yesterday I wore my new thrifted shirt and Alaric his new rainbow jacket.

I'm in love with the new caribou album. My semester is over in one month and Alaric is in two. I can't wait for lazy summer days!

A Walk in the Park

Today was one of those perfectly gorgeous days and Alaric was at Stanford all day for a symposium on evolutionary genomics, so I took Agnes and Beatrix to the park.
I loved how the lighting turned out in the photos.
Beatrix's  dress is secondhand of course.

We walked home along a magnificent tree-lined avenue.
I got to catch up on reading Infinite Jest while Bea played today.
dress- Thrift Town
sandals- cheap thrills vintage
necklace-thrifted
Later we made chocolate cupcakes and watched Monsters, Inc.

Washed Out

Yesterday I really wanted to wear this spring dress despite the chill in the air. It had been in the sewing pile but only needed a small rip mended. I found this dress for a dollar at my local vintage clothes store. I love pairing just about everything with black and florals are no exception.

This camera is better at taking avant garde photos than regular ones.
