In Memory of My Beautiful Sister Christianne

Born December 25, 1976

My life was
lunacy until
this moonlit night

I'm in the middle and Chrissie is at my right

(Japanese Death Poems)
Life is not easy for anyone but for my once vivacious sister it was especially difficult. She battled with a very difficult mental illness heroically for 12 years that we were aware of and still managed to be the most loving, generous and nonjudgmental person I have had the pleasure of knowing in my life. I remember as a shy young girl admiring her powerful vivaciousness for all who knew her then loved being around her.  She experienced such psychological anguish in her last months we found out after her suicide.  In death she is now completely free of pain and for that I am grateful. I am inspired to fully appreciate each moment for all of us will die sooner or later and now is all we have.

  3. My condolences, there's a long history of mental illness in my family (particularly in my mother and grandmother) and I have nothing but empathy and sympathy for you and your family. This was such a touching post and it makes me think of the line from Hamlet from Gertrude, "all that lives must die, passing through here to eternity."

  10. I am so saddened to hear of your loss but am somewhat relieved when I read what you wrote about your sister being relieved of her pain. Take strength and comfort from that thought and know that she is always alive through your thoughts and memories and love for her. Wishing you much joy and happiness in the new year!

  11. My mother is also mentally ill, but refuses to believe so, or to admit it. I am very sorry for your loss, but I am encouraged by your view of these events. I hope that if I ever find myself in the same situation, I can be inspired to have the same outlook.

  16. Sorry for your loss.
I lost my grandmother over the holidays and just reading this type of thing gets me very emotional.
I, too, try to focus on the end of pain and struggle for those who have passed on.....

  17. I'm very sorry for your loss Lisa. It must be the hardest situation to deal with and I can't imagine how sad one must feel.
My mother's boyfriend experienced the exact same situation a few years ago but still doesn't talk much about it, so it's a good thing you talk resp. blog about it, I think it's always better to let it all out instead of swallowing the pain.

I wish you and your family all the best for these sad times and the strength to handle them.

Your sister looks like such a likable person in all the photos :)

  20. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope your family is coping at this difficult time. Mental illness is something that much more medical research needs to be devoted to.

  21. Oh Lisa, I am so sorry!!! My older sister is several months younger than Christianne and she is my best friend. I don't know how I could cope with that loss. You are so strong and courageous and I wish I could hug you.
